Gospel of the Day 30/5/11 & 31/5/11

31/5/11

Luke 1:39-56.
During those days Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah,
where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.
When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit,
cried out in a loud voice and said, "Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled."
And Mary said: "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
For he has looked upon his handmaid's lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.
The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
His mercy is from age to age to those who fear him.
He has shown might with his arm, dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart.
He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones but lifted up the lowly.
The hungry he has filled with good things; the rich he has sent away empty.
He has helped Israel his servant, remembering his mercy,
according to his promise to our fathers, to Abraham and to his descendants forever."
Mary remained with her about three months and then returned to her home.

30/5/11

John 15:26-27.16:1-4.
When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth that proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me.
And you also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.
I have told you this so that you may not fall away.
They will expel you from the synagogues; in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he is offering worship to God.
They will do this because they have not known either the Father or me.
I have told you this so that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you. "I did not tell you this from the beginning, because I was with you.

Sunday Snippets!

Well, it’s that time of the week again.  No, not the time to make fun of the Family Channel.  It’s Sunday Snippets time.  Where a bunch of Catholicy authors post a list of the Catholicy stuff that was on their Catholicy blog that week.  (If you haven’t noticed - which is very hard - I’ve created a new word, Catholicy.  It means the same as the adjective Catholic, but it’s kind of cute sounding. (so "I am a Roman Catholicy”doesn’t work, but that is a Catholicy person does.))  (Yet further proof that I shouldn’t blog at night.)    ...Anyway, since I missed last weeks Sunday Snippets,  I’m going to have some of my posts from then on the list this week as well.  Drumroll please    -_-_-O  Here it is:

A New Author! (ish)  All about a new author on this blog. (in a way)
Weekly Writing Corner  An idea I had.  (Name subject to change)
Homeschooling Buisnesses  Buisnesses by Homeschoolers
Captivenia 2011 register now!  A wonderful Mother & daughter summer camp by the wife of the person in charge of:
Arcatheos 2011 register now!  A wonderful Father and son summer camp, where the dads dress up as bad guys, and the kids fight them with foam weapons and water ballons.

and of course:

Gospel of the Day 28/5/11
Gospel of the Day 26/5/11, and 27/5/11
Gospel of the Day 25/5/11

Gospel of the Day 28/5/11

John 15:18-21.
If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first.
If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you.
Remember the word I spoke to you, 'No slave is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.
And they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me.

A New Author! (ish)

A new author as joined my blog.  In a way.  The ever wonderful Anne Therese will from time to time email me with stuff that she has written.  I will then post it under her name.  (meaning that I will say something like: "and now a story from Anne Therese." or something like that.)  If you have any stories or poems or...etc you would like published just put a comment in the comment box.

In other news, check out another blog from Anne Therese called The Truth.  It is...well..you'll have to go see it for yourself.  Well, nevermind then.  It has ceased to exist in this world...or any other for that matter.

Gospel of the Day 26/5/11, and 27/5/11

27/5/11

John 15:12-17.
This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.
No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command you.
I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father.
It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.
This I command you: love one another.

26/5/11

John 15:9-11.
As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love.
If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love.
I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.

Weekly Writing Corner

Well, you may have noticed two new surveys.  They are for an idea I had called: The Weekly Writing Corner.  (Rest assured there will be a much catchier name shortly.)  The idea behind it is either one of two things.  Either I post a poem or an excerpt from a story or something else that I’ve written and then people put links to their blogs on it, (and maybe link back to me...)  or instead of that, they put the poems in the comment box.  That is the purpose of one of the surveys.  The other survey is...well..It speaks for itself.

On that note, here’s two poems: (one is an old one but with one line changed)

On Looking Out of a Window  (Because I wrote this while looking out of a window.)
Looking out of my window,
I see the rain as it falls,
I sit and watch in the silence,
As the day draws to a close.

It seems to speak in whispers,
Of a world I have never known,
And a girl who is waiting,
As the day draws to a close.

So I leave my post at the window,
my post in that dreary world,
And I go to my love who is waiting,
As the day draws to a close.

To Those Who Read the Previous Poem

Some people say I’m in love with a girl,
who is tall and rather quite wide,
Others will say I’m in love with a girl,
who is short round about knee-high,
The truth however is different than that,
The truth is I am in love with a cat.
P.S Actually that final line was untrue,
      However, that you probably knew.

On blogs and changes.

Sigh, so many blogs are changing constantly.  Like my sister's blog.  It used to be all one page, but now?  No, one page isn't good enough.  (Warning Monty Python reference approaching)

You know, when we were young we didn't have any of these fancy about me pages.  We had to make our blogs on one page.

(Next Yorkshireman:) Well, in my day we had it tough.  We didn't have any pages.  We didn't even have a computer  .We had to make our blogs on typewriters.

(Other Yorkshireman:) We used to dream of using a typewriter, would have been like Heaven to us.  No, we had to make due with sticks and dead leaves.

(Last Yorkshireman:) What type of leaves?
(Other Yorkshireman:) Maple.
(Last Yorkshireman:)......

Well you get the picture.  Actually, now that I think about it, that's the real reason for this post.  So that I could copy Monty Python.  No other reason at all.  Well then...um..

That's all for now!

Gospel of the day 25/5/11

Well, that didn't last long.  Oh well, now I'll be dedicated.  (hopefully(maybe))

Anyway, here is the Gospel.

John 15:1-8.
I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower.
He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and everyone that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.
You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you.
Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me.
I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.
Anyone who does not remain in me will be thrown out like a branch and wither; people will gather them and throw them into a fire and they will be burned.
If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.
By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.

Gospel of the Day 20/5/11

John 14:1-6.
Jesus said to his disciples: «Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me.
In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be.
Where (I) am going you know the way."
Thomas said to him, "Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?"
Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Gospel of the day 17/5/11, 18/5/11, & 19/5/11

19/5/11

John 13:16-20.
When Jesus had washed the disciples' feet, he said to them: Amen, amen, I say to you, no slave is greater than his master nor any messenger greater than the one who sent him.
If you understand this, blessed are you if you do it.
I am not speaking of all of you. I know those whom I have chosen. But so that the scripture might be fulfilled, 'The one who ate my food has raised his heel against me.'
From now on I am telling you before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe that I AM.
Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me."

18/5/11

John 12:44-50.
Jesus cried out and said, Whoever believes in me believes not only in me but also in the one who sent me,
and whoever sees me sees the one who sent me.
I came into the world as light, so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness.
And if anyone hears my words and does not observe them, I do not condemn him, for I did not come to condemn the world but to save the world.
Whoever rejects me and does not accept my words has something to judge him: the word that I spoke, it will condemn him on the last day,
because I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and speak.
And I know that his commandment is eternal life. So what I say, I say as the Father told me."

17/5/11

John 10:22-30.
The feast of the Dedication was taking place in Jerusalem. It was winter.
And Jesus walked about in the temple area on the Portico of Solomon.
So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, "How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly."
Jesus answered them, "I told you and you do not believe. The works I do in my Father's name testify to me.
But you do not believe, because you are not among my sheep.
My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand.
My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one can take them out of the Father's hand.
The Father and I are one."

Gospel of the Day 16/5/11

John 10:11-18.
I am the good shepherd. A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
A hired man, who is not a shepherd and whose sheep are not his own, sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away, and the wolf catches and scatters them.
This is because he works for pay and has no concern for the sheep.
I am the good shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me,
just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I will lay down my life for the sheep.
I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and there will be one flock, one shepherd.
This is why the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again.
No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own. I have power to lay it down, and power to take it up again. This command I have received from my Father."

Homeschooling Buisnesses.

Alright, so In this post I'm going to talk about a wonderful person named Tianna Mallet.  I could talk for days about how great her family is so I am just going to focus on her for this post.  She is the daughter (or one of the daughters either way works) of Mark Mallet (who I could talk about for a year and a day) and Lea Mallet nee Berube (speaking of Berubes, there are tons and tons of them in this neck of the woods.  It seems like every other person is a Berube these days...but that's another story.)   Tianna is a terrific graphic designer.  Whenever I see her pictures, I'm speechless.  She's also very skilled in making websites.  Her website is http://ti-design.ca/ti-design.ca/tiDESIGN_Graphic_Design_and_Websites_by_Tianna_Mallett.html

If you or your children are or were homeschooled and have a buisness you want me to promote, put a comment on this post giving your name age and a description of the buisness.  (P.S I will also actively search out homeschooling buisnesses and put them here as well (this post is an example of that))

Reflection 8/5/11

How many times to we see God as just another traveller on the road?  How many times are we blind to his presence beside us on our journey.  These are questions we should try to ask ourselves daily.

When things don't always go the way we think they should, we sometimes give up on them. So it was with these disciples.  They thought that Jesus had come to defeat the Romans and restore the Jews to their rightful possessions.  When Jesus died they were confused.  No doubt they were thinking, "If he was God then why would he have let himself die on a cross like a criminal?"  Sometimes we think somewhat the same thing.  We ask, "How can there be a God if ____"  Sometimes this even happens unconsciously.  We aren't even aware of thinking it.  When this does happen, the best thing to do is to turn to God and ask him.  He will usually give an answer as he does to the two disciples on the road.

Roses From Heaven

This is a story about my most recent experience with the power of prayer.

Just yesterday, I was trying to figure out (again) what I wanted to do with my life.  I had gotten a couple good ideas and finally nailed it down to one.  To make sure that what I had chosen was what God wanted, I decided to pray about it.  I felt that God was saying yes but to make doubly sure, I thought about asking St. Therese.  So I asked to see a rose within the week if God wanted me to go through with my plan.

Now, today a bunch of my friends came over to play at our house.  They were here for a while then their dad came to pick them up.  My parents had also asked him (unbeknownst to me) to buy - you guessed it -roses for my Grandmas.  So, he brought the roses in.  All sixteen of them. (which is also my age.)

Postscript: After, I thought: "Wow that's cool...but maybe that doesn't count because the roses were already going to come before I prayed."  Then the mother of the friends came (she was getting groceries) and gave us even more roses just because.

That's all for now!

Saint Therese of Lisieux,
pray for us!

Gospel of the day 6/5/11, 7/5/11 & 8/5/11

You know, I really should post the Gospels of the day on their proper days.  Oh well,  such is life.
I'm also posting Sunday's Gospel because it is looking hectically busy.  I should have a little thingy (for lack of a better word) on the Sunday Gospel either today or tomorrow.

 8/5/11
Luke 24:13-35.
That very day, the first day of the week, two of Jesus' disciples were going to a village seven miles from Jerusalem called Emmaus,
and they were conversing about all the things that had occurred.
And it happened that while they were conversing and debating, Jesus himself drew near and walked with them,
but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him.
He asked them, "What are you discussing as you walk along?" They stopped, looking downcast.
One of them, named Cleopas, said to him in reply, "Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know of the things that have taken place there in these days?"
And he replied to them, "What sort of things?" They said to him, "The things that happened to Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,
how our chief priests and rulers both handed him over to a sentence of death and crucified him.
But we were hoping that he would be the one to redeem Israel; and besides all this, it is now the third day since this took place.
Some women from our group, however, have astounded us: they were at the tomb early in the morning
and did not find his body; they came back and reported that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who announced that he was alive.
Then some of those with us went to the tomb and found things just as the women had described, but him they did not see."
And he said to them, "Oh, how foolish you are! How slow of heart to believe all that the prophets spoke!
Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and enter into his glory?"
Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them what referred to him in all the scriptures.
As they approached the village to which they were going, he gave the impression that he was going on farther.
But they urged him, "Stay with us, for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over." So he went in to stay with them.
And it happened that, while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them.
With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight.
Then they said to each other, "Were not our hearts burning (within us) while he spoke to us on the way and opened the scriptures to us?"
So they set out at once and returned to Jerusalem where they found gathered together the eleven and those with them
who were saying, "The Lord has truly been raised and has appeared to Simon!"
Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way and how he was made known to them in the breaking of the bread.

 7/5/11
Saint John 6:16-21.
When it was evening, the disciples of Jesus went down to the sea,
embarked in a boat, and went across the sea to Capernaum. It had already grown dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them.
The sea was stirred up because a strong wind was blowing.
When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they began to be afraid.
But he said to them, "It is I. Do not be afraid."
They wanted to take him into the boat, but the boat immediately arrived at the shore to which they were heading.

6/5/11
John 6:1-15.
Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee.
A large crowd followed him, because they saw the signs he was performing on the sick.
Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples.
The Jewish feast of Passover was near.
When Jesus raised his eyes and saw that a large crowd was coming to him, he said to Philip, "Where can we buy enough food for them to eat?"
He said this to test him, because he himself knew what he was going to do.
Philip answered him, "Two hundred days' wages worth of food would not be enough for each of them to have a little (bit)."
One of his disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, said to him,
There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?
Jesus said, "Have the people recline." Now there was a great deal of grass in that place. So the men reclined, about five thousand in number.
Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed them to those who were reclining, and also as much of the fish as they wanted.
When they had had their fill, he said to his disciples, "Gather the fragments left over, so that nothing will be wasted."
So they collected them, and filled twelve wicker baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves that had been more than they could eat.
When the people saw the sign he had done, they said, "This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the world."
Since Jesus knew that they were going to come and carry him off to make him king, he withdrew again to the mountain alone.

Gospel of the Day 5/5/11

John 3:31-36.
The one who comes from above is above all. The one who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of earthly things. But the one who comes from heaven is above all.
He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony.
Whoever does accept his testimony certifies that God is trustworthy.
For the one whom God sent speaks the words of God. He does not ration his gift of the Spirit.
The Father loves the Son and has given everything over to him.
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains upon him.

Gospel of the Day 4/5/11

John 3:16-21.
God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.
Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil.
For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed.
But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.

Gospel of the Day 3/5/11

John 14:6-14.
Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him."
Philip said to him, "Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us."
Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?
Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me is doing his works.
Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else, believe because of the works themselves.
Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father.
And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.

Gospel of the Day 2/5/11

John 3:1-8.
There was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
He came to Jesus at night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God, for no one can do these signs that you are doing unless God is with him."
Jesus answered and said to him, "Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above."
Nicodemus said to him, "How can a person once grown old be born again? Surely he cannot reenter his mother's womb and be born again, can he?"
Jesus answered, "Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit.
What is born of flesh is flesh and what is born of spirit is spirit.
Do not be amazed that I told you, 'You must be born from above.'
The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes; so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."

Gospel of the Day 1/5/11

John 20:19-31.
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, «Peace be with you.»
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
(Jesus) said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you."
And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the holy Spirit.
Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained."
Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.
So the other disciples said to him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nailmarks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe."
Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, "Peace be with you."
Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe."
Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God!"
Jesus said to him, "Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."
Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of (his) disciples that are not written in this book.
But these are written that you may (come to) believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name.
