NaNoWriMo a.k.a national novel writing month

Some people may be wondering why I’m not posting at all, even though I said I was back just last week. The reason is because of NaNoWriMo.  NaNoWriMo is a challenge to write a five thousand word essay during the month of November.  As this will probably be very difficult, I’m taking a break from all things involving a computer except for school work and working on the novel.  So until December...

That’s all for now.

Dr. Who and Narnia

I have just heard a rumour that the next Dr. Who Christmas special will be set in "Narnia" in the words of the Daily Star (the paper that reported this) "Show boss Steven Moffat is planning lots of snow, chases through a wintry The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe-style forest, plus an icy baddie.
The special sees the Time Lord (Matt Smith, 28) crash land in war-torn England. Posing as the caretaker of a creepy old house in Dorset he embarks on a magical mystery adventure with Madge Arwell and her two children, Lily and Cyril. The three have been evacuated from London as the capital comes under attack during World War Two. And there’s plenty of surprises as the Doctor leads them into a new world."  Admittedly, it probably won't be just like Narnia, probably not even closely based on Narnia, but the fact that the best tv show to ever come out of Britan might be combined with one of the best books ever is good enough for me.

Finally! A Narnia post!

Well I was just looking through my recent posts and I realized that *gasp* I haven’t had a Narnia related post in, well let’s just say a long time.  So, without further ado:  A Narnian themed post.

It would have been better if this post was yesterday.  Yesterday was The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe’s sixty-first birthday.  Happy birthday Narnia!

In other news, Douglas Gresham hopes to one day of movie versions of every Narnia book.  However, it will be a while until the next movie because the contract with Walden Media expired and the Lewis Estate  has to wait "several years” until they are allowed to sell the rights to the books.  In the meantime, we wait.

Tag!

Alright, the ever-wonderful Anne Therese (Creativity) tagged me and so I’m passing it on.

To anyone that I pass it on two, you have to answer the same questions I answered.

1.  What can you hear? - I can hear my fingers typing and my IPod playing “Don’t Stop Believin” by Journey
2.  What is something coming up that you are excited about? - SEARCH on November 20th in Ardrosson.  (What is SEARCH you ask? - The answer will be up soon.)
3.  What is your favourite drink besides water? - My favourite drink besides water...hmm..Ah-ha!  The Cookies-and-Cream Milkshake from FatBurgers (A quality fast food resturant)
4.  What is your favourite place to vist on the web? - I would have to say that my favourite place on the web would be the Council of Elrond forums (A Lord of the Rings forum)
5.  Where do you like to wander? - I love to wander and wind my way through forests.
6.  How do you unburden? - I unburden by reading a book and thinking or talking with friends.
7.  What is your favourite season? - This is the only question for which I don’t have one answer.  It’s a toss-up between Fall - for the amazing colours - and winter -for the beauty of snow.
8.  Please list two people you want to tag - Alright.  The two people I tag are...Drumroll please.....my darling sister Queen Lucy @ The Fords of Beruna and Rebecca @ Living for Christ.

Edmonton Archdiocese Youth Rally Retreat Thingy

Well, I just got back from the Edmonton Archdiocese Youth Rally Retreat Thingy (I can't remember what it's called right now.)  What is this Edmonton Archdiocese Youth Rally Retreat Thingy you ask (really I'm asking it for you but hey use your imagination)  Well it's basically a bunch of Catholic talks aimed and young adults and youth with mass and praise & worship songs.  This year, the band that played was FX of Grace.  They are a group of teenage boys who got together to form a Catholic Praise and Worship band.  They have a single out on ITunes called Dance.  I highly recomend it.  Also, their first album will be released onto ITunes in TWO WEEKS.  That I can also highly recomend as they played some of their songs from it today.  For the mass, the band was ___(I can't remember the name right now but as soon as I remember this will be edited.)  Then after mass and supper, there was a dance.  With a range of songs from the Y.M.C.A to Cadillac Ranch.  (Unfortunately, it wasn't a ballroom style dance, but a bunch of us homeschoolers ballroom danced anyway for bit's of it.)  Oh, I almost forgot.  The speaker for the talks was Michael Chiasson.  He was originally from Houston, Texas and moved to Canada only recently.  (I'd put when he moved but like so many other things in this post I forgot.)  He had two main points.  The First: You are AMAZING!!!  In other words.  Everyone that you meet is an amazing person and so are you so treat others properly, and also hold your head up eye because you are amazing.  The second point (and those reading this who went to the Family Life Conference or heard the talks there described will have heard this.)  was:  I'M ALL IN.  It's also Michael's theme for the year.  Going into details, basically being ALL IN means giving everything to God, everything to the faith.  All in all it was an impacting day/night.

Well, that's all for now! ;)

I’m Back V1092253782 (or around there abouts)

Well, I’ve missed um well um let’s just say a lot of days...  And this time I don’t think I have any excuse...  Oh here’s one...no wait it’s not November...Oh!  No that won’t work either....  Ah-ha!  My excuse is I haven’t been blogging or moderating comments because I am to darn lazy.

...Anyway, in this post I shall be - besides apologizing for my laziness - discussing  modern "art".

if you go to a modern art gallery, you must be really careful as you might hang your coat on an exhibit or wipe your boots one as well.  That’s because both coat hooks and welcome mats are commonly used in modern art.  Also, if you blindfold yourself and throw paint at a wall, that’s art.  I propose a change from this.  Make the criteria for art be something that the normal person can’t do.  I can throw paint at a wall blindfolded.  Not art.  I can throw trash on the ground.  Not art.  I cannot sculpt a statue that looks just like King David.  Art!

And now more light-heartedly (if such a thing is possible)
Cat Herding.  (I bet that both Queen Lucy and Anne Therese are laughing right now without watching the video.)

Well that’s all for now...

What is Dog Latin?  Everyone knows what Latin is.  Most know Pig Latin (or should I say Ostmay owknay Igpay Atinlay)  But Dog Latin is an unfamiliar concept to most.  The best way to describe it is Fake Latin.  The fundamental rule for Dog Latin is it has to sound like Latin and sound like what you want it to mean.  An example:

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Who guards the guards themselves?
(famous Latin quote)

Quis custodian ipsos custodianes?
Who cleans the cleaners
(dog Latin)

For another example look one post back.

P.S in case you don't know about Pig Latin, I shall show examples of it.  I'm not going to explain it though, as that would take all the fun out of it.

Isthay isyay Igpay Atinlay.

Osay isyay isthay.

Ancay ouyay uessgay ethay ulesray ofyay Igpay Atinlay?

A parting thought:  Dyslexics of the world untie!

Friday, September 2, 2011

I have a couple things.  First, two similar Latin* phrases and their translations Veritas Vos Liberabit (the truth shall set you free) and Veritas Vos Liberabbit (The truth shall free the rabbits)  There, now that that is out of the way I shall talk about recent events.  Just yesterday, I got back from Youth 4 Truth.  A Catholic Homeschooling Teen Retreat organized by some friends of mine.  I went last year as well.  Last year, I knew most of the people at the retreat by the end.  This year I knew everyone.  There were sixty of us.  It took place from Tuesday to Thursday at the Mount St. Francis Retreat Center in Cochraine.  There was adoration, confession, daily mass, (which I helped do the music for) praise & worship songs, (which I helped do the music for) talks, and testimonies from those who were at World Youth Day.  Also, there was quite a bit of free time.  During the free time we played: Ultimate Frisbee, Mao, (a card game where the only rule you can tell people about is this one) King, (or King and assassin (supposedly a medieval game, it is kind of like a walk-around version of chess)) and of course *drum roll*   Garbage Ball!  In addition to playing Garbage Ball, there was a garbage ball sportsmanship award.  All in all, Youth 4 Truth 2011 was a blast

Back Again (even shorter)

Well, we got back yesterday.  Now, I’m going to a Catholic homeschooling youth conference called Youth For Truth.  I’ll be back on Thursday.  Then, I should be back to my regular posts.

I’m Back (Shortly)

Well, I’m back from Arcatheos (for those of you who didn’t know I’d left all I can say is: oops)  I was supposed to be gone for twelve days starting on the twenty-eighth of July and ending on the eighth of this month.  However, my family sprung a vacation on me.  I went to Regina for a couple days and then South into North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Montana. (In that order and with the majority of the time spent in South Dakota.)  I’m back just in time to announce my departure for reading camp in a couple days.  To make up for my extended absence and my absence that is fast approaching, I offer as a peace gift another poem from the ever-wonderful Anne Therese.  Oh one more thing.  While I was away, some costume pieces I ordered arrived in the mail.  I’ll try to find some time to post pictures.

Finding Joy
 By Anne Therese

Where has it gone,
That joy.
It wasn’t always
Gone.

I want it back
I used to be so full of it
I want to go
Back.

I am asking him
Who is the light
Because I trust in
Him.

I am happy
But not like before
I want it normal and
Happy
I want it to be simple
Kindness and love.
I wish it was easy and
Simple.

I have great hope
There is no greater
Because I know he is there, and I
Hope.

I need to pray
Because he is always there
I can get it all back, if I
Pray.

Gospel of the Day 22/7/11

John 20:1-2.11-18.
On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb.
So she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, "They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don't know where they put him."
But Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping. And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb
and saw two angels in white sitting there, one at the head and one at the feet where the body of Jesus had been.
And they said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "They have taken my Lord, and I don't know where they laid him."
When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus there, but did not know it was Jesus.
Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?" She thought it was the gardener and said to him, "Sir, if you carried him away, tell me where you laid him, and I will take him."
Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabbouni," which means Teacher.
Jesus said to her, "Stop holding on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and tell them, 'I am going to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"
Mary of Magdala went and announced to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord," and what he told her.

My bad!

Alright, it is now twelve days since my last post.  All I can say is: oops.  (Well, actually, I can say more, but I just choose not to.)  Well, I’m going to scrap that Friday writing idea and replace it with a simple request.  Send me all your poems, short stories, slightly longish stories, really longish stories, cool pictures, and anything that you thing I might enjoy to stuffforCairParavel@gmail.com (not my real email) (for those of you who know my real one, just send it to that.)

Gospel of the Day 10/7/11

Matthew 10:34-42.11:1.
Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth. I have come to bring not peace but the sword.
For I have come to set a man 'against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
and one's enemies will be those of his household.'
Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;
and whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.
Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.
Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is righteous will receive a righteous man's reward.
And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because he is a disciple--amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward."
When Jesus finished giving these commands to his twelve disciples, he went away from that place to teach and to preach in their towns.

I’m Back V3

There, now I’m back.  I should be back for a while as well.  It was quite an enjoyable Baseball Camp.  On the first day, we practiced, and learnt, and practiced some more.  On the second day we practiced and played a baseball game and...Wait a minute!  Actually, on the second day we were rained out so we had to stay at the Living Waters College of the Arts and play cards.  We ended up playing three games of Mao, followed by a game of Mafia.  It was quite a fun time.

To all those in the States.

Well, this is to everyone from the U.S who views my blog.  Happy (belated) Independence Day.  *Sigh* I still remember the last Independence Day celebration I attended.  It was in South Dakota.  We had tons and tons and tons and...tons of fireworks.  All sorts of different types.  We even managed to have extras to take back up here to the cold north.  They then saw use next year on Canada Day.  Anyway, back to the party.  It was a blast...and so were the fireworks. (Ba-dum ching.)  You know, there was something ellse I wanted to mention...I can’t think of it now.... Oh well, it will come to me.......................   Maybe not...  Well I guess...  That’s all for now!

Gospel of the Day 5/7/11

Matthew 10:1-7.
Then he summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits to drive them out and to cure every disease and every illness.
The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon called Peter, and his brother Andrew; James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John;
Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddeus;
Simon the Cananean, and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him.
Jesus sent out these twelve after instructing them thus, "Do not go into pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town.
Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
As you go, make this proclamation: 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'

To the Lord Valerian on the first day of the seventh month of the Second Age of Lumenorus, 2:00
Greetings my lord,
I am Guardian Carthion.  I am the guardian of a gate into the world of men located in the forest of Sauvage.  I request the aid of the Praedorian Rangers and as many loyal officers as you can spare.  Drochs are moving again in these lands.  I know that I cannot hold them off from this gate alone.  Not one hour ago, a Droch crept past me, searching for the gate.  It wil not search again, but others of its kind are sure to find it.

signed,
Carthion, Guardian of the forest Sauvage

THE HISTORY OF LUMENORUS

Chapter 1: The Rise of Arcātheos

Written by Brian Doran

In the beginning, when the realm of Lumenorus was first revealed to the Duxarium, the great King walked openly in their presence.  On a day of great importance, he summoned seven from among their race who were of the purest blood. When these chosen ones finally emerged from his council, more than three years had passed. In that time they had been greatly transformed, and were no longer recognized by their former kin.  They had been graced with gifts and powers so as to carry out the will of the King, reflecting him in the manner in which they spoke. They became known as the Arch-Lords, ruling over all Duxarium in the ancient courts.
Among the many gifts possessed by the seven, was the ability to forge powerful gates which served as portals into distant realms. The gates themselves drew their power from the springs beneath them, sending forth a mysterious mist, capable of penetrating various dimensions. These passageways were relatively unstable, in that their course would shift, and could only allow a limited number of individuals to pass through on a daily basis. In the year 542 of the 1st age, a small group of humans journeyed into this beautiful untamed land. Although they were able to pass back and forth freely, many chose to settle in Lumenorus, never to return home. After several generations, it became clear that the waters could extend their natural lives to nearly twice that of their ancestors. There was a time of peace, in which their populations grew to number tens of thousands spread throughout various regions. During this time, the Duxarium tried to remain hidden from the eyes of the settlers, choosing to dwell in forests and remote mountain ranges. However, rumors soon grew among the commoners of strange men and women dressed in royal clothing, who could vanish from sight when stumbled upon in forest glades.
In time, the settlers named themselves according to villages and territories, and chose various leaders to rule over them. Meridianas, which held the largest population, was to the south beyond the great river. Solandil, or “land of the sun,” encompassed the mountains to the west. The territory to the north was that of Caelor, which was known for its endless woods and enchanted skies. The southern part of Caelor would later be annexed to form Praedor, meaning “land of battle.”
In time, quarrels developed over land boundaries and hunting grounds. It was in the year 1263, during the reign of Chief Granak of Caelor, that the first blood was spilled in violence.  He had declared open war against his own brother, and sent his warriors at night to destroy the peaceful village of Shanoth. This was an isolated settlement far from the capital of Meridianas Arbor. The retaliation by his brother Baenar was even more barbaric, leaving several villages within Caelor engulfed in flames. The Duxarium were horrified to see innocent blood spilled in such a manner, and discerned the time was at hand to intervene.
It was Lord Morinius, one of the seven Arch-Lords who offered to speak to Granak. However, instead of securing peace, he accepted the challenge of single combat and utterly destroyed him, along with six of his most respected leaders. The settlers were so unprepared for the ferocious skill of this being, that they feared the Duxarium and began to fortify their settlements.
The remaining Arch-Lords took council, and declared that the spilling of mortal blood was an abomination, worthy of exile.  When Morinius learned that he was to be banished from the Duxarium he went to the 1st council of Lumenorus, being held in Meridianas Arbor, and claimed that all the humans were in great danger. Many believed him out of fear of annihilation, and began forging weapons of war. Morinius offered to aid them in the fight against his former brothers.  He chose leaders from among them, and fled with a score of men into the East, far beyond the known lands. There he molded them through deception, and imparted to them knowledge of ancient skills. In time, he would take on the name Reth Maloch, meaning “evil shadow.”  For as long as possible, he retained the ability to appear in the form of the Duxarium, in order to deceive more to his cause.  However, his true appearance was of a more cruel and evil demeanor, his skin beginning to wrinkle as he could no longer tolerate drinking from the springs of Lumenorus.  Many Duxarium fell prey to his subtleties, and those who joined him became powerful minions at his disposal.
It was Lord Gabron who convinced the remaining settlers of the deception that had taken place. He spoke with intense passion about his King, whom he served with an unwavering loyalty. They were so enamored with his eloquence of speech that they too wanted to serve this King. He then pledged eternal loyalty between the Duxarium and the settlers, and that they would prepare them for the coming trials.
Two of the original seven, Tirsön and Carthāneous, were killed beyond the known lands while searching for the fallen. In order to protect all the territories, the remaining four Arch-Lords became Guardians of each of the respective gates. Lord Gabron took his seat at the Gate of Meridianas Arbor, which was the noblest civilization of mortals. Lord Valerian, the most gifted in strategies of war, was appointed to the Hill of the King, which he renamed Arcātheos. Here he spent more than a generation, in the lives of men, constructing a gate of untold power. This portal was so stable that he could summon entire legions of warriors at a time, so as to defend all lands loyal to the King. Its location was conceived in wisdom, for the Kingdom of Arcātheos now sat in the center of all the known lands.
Maloch became envious of the mighty stronghold Lord Valerian had built in honor of the King. In the year 1736 he unleashed his menacing Dröch army, invading what is now known as Praedor. Until that time, this land had been unclaimed by the settlers due to its dark forests and dangerous wolves.  He had thus secured a foothold on the eastern border of Arcātheos.  In anticipation of this threat, Lord Valerian stationed a Garrison of troops below the Hill of the King. After a year and a half of open war, Maloch overcame this defence, taking the Tower of Praedor.  He had thus reached the slopes ascending to Arcātheos itself.  It is said that nearly 3,000 men and 140 Duxarium gave their lives defending the main gate, which was located in the forest to the west of the keep.  They did so willingly, in an attempt to prevent the remaining Dröch legions from passing through it. If Maloch were to succeed in this endeavor, the world of men would have fallen into certain darkness.
Over a year had now passed since Lord Gabron first encountered the Princess Annalise of Meridianas. They were married later that summer, during the Festival of Maidens. This is the only time in known history of a union between the Duxarium and mortals. He had just given his fatherly blessing after the birth of their daughter Leisaura, when a messenger arrived declaring thatArcātheos was under siege. He left with haste, and within 3 days he arrived with reinforcements. What he saw as he crested the hill were three Duxarium and a handful of men making their last stand at the gate. They were surrounded by the remnants of three Dröch Legions, under the direct command of Reth Maloch.  Lord Valerian was only moments away from calling down fire to destroy the gate, which would have sacrificed himself in the process, when the Auxillary of Meridianas sounded the charge.
Lord Gabron’s men crashed through the right flank of the enemy and were slowly making their way towards the gate.  Within moments, the sky darkened as Maloch positioned himself with his chief minions to meet this new threat. The ground shook as he unleashed his wrath in the form of fire, with the full force of it knocking Lord Gabron violently to the ground. In this dark hour, while this great enemy was still distracted, Lord Valerian launched from the gate and dealt a crippling stroke into his side. Once this evil menance was secured in chains the remaining Duxarium forced the Dröch armies back into Praedor.  As Lord Gabron was passing into eternity, Valerian vowed to protect his wife and daughter from danger. He was laid to rest in the main field of Arcātheos, with a cross marking his burial tomb. It was in this very location that his last words were spoken to the King, who remained unseen, though some claimed to have heard his voice.
Since he survived, Reth Maloch was condemned by the remaining three Arch-Lords, and imprisoned in the abyss of Silentius. There he was to be tormented by his own wickedness until the end of time. Within days, they had taken back the Tower of Praedor, and had driven the enemy eastward beyond the known lands.
When all the leaders and royal families of Lumenorus had gathered, Lord Valerian, the Guardian of Arcātheos, recognized the sacrifices made by all to secure peace. In particular, he called forth Aurelius, one of the Duxarium whose family was known for their skill in battle. It was Aurelius who had formed an elite group of men from all over Lumenorus, and it was they who remained standing at the gate in the end.  These men were henceforth named as the “Praedorian Rangers,” tasked with defending the woodlands east of the Garrison of Praedor.  In time, they would enlist men of great skill from throughout the realm, training them in the art of war.  With the Duxarium now greatly decreased in numbers, Lord Valerian began journeying through the gate in order to discover noble warriors from the realm of mortals, who could be called upon in time of need.  It was in the year 1737 that the first age of Lumenorus came to an end.
Forseeing that Leisaura and her mother would be forever hunted by the Dröch army, Lord Valerian forged a hidden passage within the main gate of Arcātheos. This created a mysterious sanctuary deep in the woodlands of Guarelle, which make up the northern limits of the Arcātheos. It is said that the King journeyed into this new land to give his blessing, and to plant mysterious artifacts in the precious soil. He then spoke with the remaining Arch-Lords, revealing his desire to name itCaptivenia, which meant “captivating grace.” Lord Valerian chose four hundred villagers who had been displaced by the uprisings, giving them the opportunity to settle in this protected region. He then appointed Commander Justin of Solandil, and his future heirs, to be the first Keepers of this region. His family was entrusted with a prophecy about the days of the coming heir, and a book containing a moral code that all were to adhere to. The Keepers were given the authority to exile members back through the gate, who by their own free will chose not to abide by the laws set forth. Since Commander Justin’s wife never bore a son, the reign of the Keepers passed to his two daughters, Veronica and Ronwyn, who faithfully served their people in all matters of the law.
Unknown to the settlers, Princess Annalise had entered with her daughter in 1st year of the 2nd age, accompanied by two female Duxarium. They journeyed on farther than the others, finding an area of total seclusion, at the base of a beautiful mountain.  After the natural death of her mother, Leisauracontinued her formation at the hands of the Duxarium. These two were particularly gifted in matters of grace and etiquette, having served in the ancient court. Due to her lineage, Leisaura was also blessed with immortality. It would be nearly two generations before she would come of age, ready to take her place as the heir of Captivenia.  During this time they remained protected from the enemy, through the heroic sacrifices of those defending the main gate of Arcātheos.  However, all was about to change…

I'm Back! V2/Arcatheos

I’m back again!  Just in time to announce that on Thursday I shall be leaving again.  I will be going to the Wisdom Homeschooling Baseball Camp.

In other news, Arcatheos (the father-son summer camp that I have mentioned previously)  had a very strong presence at the Family Life Conference.  There were many people in costumes wandering around the site, promoting Arcatheos.  Including someone in a sort of Elvish costume but with a couple changes...  (In other words...me)  On Saturday, starting at 7:00, there was even a "training mission.”  essentially, what happened was a group of officers would teach the boys the basics of marching and drill.  Then, a ranger would approach them requesting them to scout out the area.  They march off into the forest, and a scout runs up and joins them.  They march further into the forest and are stopped by Carthion the Guardian of the Forest, who is in a sort of Elvish costume but with a couple changes.  He joins up with them and they continue.  The scout runs off ahead to check something.  Carthion calls out that something is wrong.  Just at that moment, a Droch (the Arcatheos version of orcs)  grabs the scout and begins to carry him off.  Carthion takes the boys to a “secret stash of weapons” and gives each boy a sword.  Once they’re armed, they stealthily aproach the Droch in an attempt to surprise it and rescue the scout.  However, the Droch sees them and calls out: “I’ll kill him if you come any closer.”  All hope seems lost for the scout but at that moment, Ranger Lionel bursts out of the forest and tackles the Droch. The boys charge.  More Drochs (Droches?) enter from the forest.  The boys kill them, and then they leave having recused the scout from the clutches of evil.

That’s basically what the script was.  Oh, and Ranger Lionel, in my opinion, when you burst from the clearing and tackled the Droch, that had to be my favourite part.

FLC (Family Life Conference) Alberta 2011

Well, it's that time of year again.  Every year, around this time, hundreds of Albertans make there way to the shrine at Lac St. Anne.  All of them Catholic, many of them homeschooled.  Amongst that throng, will be me.  As such, I won't physically be able to post anything.  Even if I could though, I'd be much to busy.
So, on that note.

So long for now!  (until Sundayish)

Gospel of the Day 27/6/11

Matthew 8:18-22.
When Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side.
A scribe approached and said to him, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."
Jesus answered him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head."
Another of (his) disciples said to him, "Lord, let me go first and bury my father."
But Jesus answered him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead."

Gospel of the Day 26/6/11

John 6:51-58.
I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world."
The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us (his) flesh to eat?"
Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.
For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.
Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me.
This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever."

Slave Lake. Or Fires and Floods.

Well, a couple weeks ago there was a tremendously large forest fire in an area here in Alberta called Slave Lake.  Houses burned down, people lost everything, that sort of thing.  Now, to make matters worse, now that the fires are all put out, that area is now flooded.  So, if you could pray for the people who live in Slave Lake that would be very helpful.

That's all for now!

Okay, now I’m back

Alright, that last post was a bit premature.  Now, however, I really am back.  To start it all up again, it’s the first ever Weekly Writing Corner!  (If someone has a good synonym for corner that starts with a W I’d appreciate it..)   Just place your poem or story or..whatever in the comment box, or a link to the post on your blog that has them, or...whatever.  Here’s a haiku from me.

Friday
It is Friday,
The birds fly past the trees
Oh wonderous day.

I’m Back!!!!

That’s right, I’m back.  to celebrate my return here is another poem from the ever-wonderful Anne Therese:

At Home

By Anne Therese

Here I am, just showing it all
Telling a story like a poem
I am comfortable with myself
With you.

We are together on this path
Grinning together
Walking together
Just showing it all.

Being crazy just for you
And loving you for doing it back.
Laughing at nothing
We are together on this path.

Doing things for fun
That will mean so much
Making memories
Being crazy just for you.

We are experiencing life
The real thing.
Referencing that song
Just doing things for fun.

Stuff for the future
Like quotes and puns
Groaners are worth it,
We are experiencing life.

My faith is your faith
It’s something that lasts
That binds us together,
Stuff for the future.

Gospel of the day 8/6/11

John 17:11-19.
And now I will no longer be in the world, but they are in the world, while I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one just as we are.
When I was with them I protected them in your name that you gave me, and I guarded them, and none of them was lost except the son of destruction, in order that the scripture might be fulfilled.
But now I am coming to you. I speak this in the world so that they may share my joy completely.
I gave them your word, and the world hated them, because they do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world.
I do not ask that you take them out of the world but that you keep them from the evil one.
They do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world.
Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth.
As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world.
And I consecrate myself for them, so that they also may be consecrated in truth.

Gospel of the Day 2/6/11

Matthew 28:16-20.
The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them.
When they saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted.
Then Jesus approached and said to them, "All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age."

Gospel of the Day 1/6/11

John 16:12-15.
I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.
But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming.
He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.
Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.

Writings From Anne Therese

From the ever wonderful Anne Therese comes a beautiful poem, and also a terrific short story.  It's really hard to decide which one is better.

Peace be with you

 by Anne Therese

Peace be with you

Christ be with you

To me that means silence

Time to be with God

To think of my reliance

And wonder at it.

Sitting in the grass

Or watching a sunset

Being at mass

Or just darkness.

Peace is with me

Because God is with me

Grant me the light to see

Christ in peace.

Sand
By Anne Therese
"Father, Father! Look at the sand castle I have made!"
The Father looked at the creation and smiling said, "It is a good sand castle."
"It used to be just worthless sand, and now look at it! It is the same, but it is changed. It is beautiful now, because of the shape I have given it."
Then a woman came and looked at it admiringly and said, "What a wonderful sand castle, who made it?"
"I did." said the son.
"What is your name?"
"Jesus."
